The collection includes some historical specimens which are over 100 years old, as well as many rare species. The beginning of specimen collection can date back to the early eighteen century. The specimens are continiously collected since the period of Japanese occupation and post-war, but also, after 1980, the National Science Council encouraged staffs and students of department of Entomology for field survey of insects.
